Pink is the new...pink
Right now, Target and Toys R Us both have big end cap displays featuring pink versions of popular products for kids. It’s All Pink, All the Time. This must be nirvana for the girly girls or the mothers of those girly girls, the ones who believe you can never be too glittery or too pink. Especially pink.
At Target, it’s sports paraphernalia. Courtesy of Wilson, you can now outfit your small female athlete with a complete sports wardrobe in pink, pink, pink. You can buy a pink: youth basketball, volleyball, soft baseball set, teeball bat, mini lacrosse set, headband and matching wristbands, water bottle, baseball glove, teeball glove, tennis racquet, sun visor, or cinch bag.
At Toys R Us, there are two end caps; one for older girls— let's assume it’s girls— who might not otherwise play or buy board games because they just weren’t the right color. You can purchase the pink “Boutique Edition” Monopoly set, the Twister Pink with Ultracool Plush Carry Bag (image) and Jenga Girl Talk edition, pink.
The second display is for the little girls. You’ve got a full range of Fisher-Price toys in bright bubblegum. There’s the Bubble Mower, the Rock n’ Stack, the Chatter Phone, the Shake n’ Go Racers, the Corn Popper, the Medical Kit, the Speak ‘n Say Princess Says edition, Lil’ Snoopy, and the Lil’ Movers Airplane and Schoolbus.
Now as far as I could tell, none of these were products dedicated toward raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research, so I guess it was just…a bunch of pink stuff. It hasn't replaced the regular stuff, of course. You can still buy those.
Maybe the traditional old white Lil’ Movers Airplane, hidden in the middle of the adjacent aisle, is just too not-pink for some people’s little girls? Apparently, it’s okay for girls to play with cars, so long as they’re magenta-colored Shake n’ Go Racers.
Let’s just not talk about the pink doctor’s kit.
But, um, I kinda liked the pink baseball glove. And the cinch bag.
